Why this exists.
Rathe TEC is a community outreach organization teaching technology, school funding, business capital, taxes and generational wealth — built for Black and urban communities. Plain language. No jargon. No upsells. No one judging you for asking.
Why we exist
Most of the gap is information and access — not effort.
Our communities were excluded from the generations of quiet, ordinary wealth-building that happened everywhere else: inherited homes, co-signed loans, parents who explained how a mortgage works, uncles who talked about stocks at the dinner table. Federal policy played a part — redlining, denied GI Bill benefits, stolen family land. So did the fact that nobody ever sat us down and explained the paperwork.
What we’re fixing
Financial products are marketed to us hardest and explained to us least. Payday lenders, title loans, “credit repair” companies, for-profit schools, and apps that charge you to learn what the IRS gives away for free. Every one of those profits from confusion.
Confusion is fixable. When you know what a filing status does to your bill, what a personal guarantee puts at risk, and what a beneficiary designation overrides — you stop paying the ignorance tax.
How we work
- Plain language first. Acronyms get translated before they get used.
- We point to official sources: IRS, SBA, federal student aid, your state.
- We never sell your information and never take a cut of your loan.
- We say “I don’t know, here’s who does” instead of guessing.
- We meet people where they are: libraries, churches, barbershops, community centers.
The Founder
Started by someone who had to figure it out himself.
TerRon started Rathe TEC because the money and tech education he needed was never handed to him. Nobody sat him down and explained how a mortgage works, what a filing status does to a refund, or why the fine print is where the money goes. So he’s doing that now — in plain language, in his own community, with no upsell and no one judging you for asking.
He’s a network engineer by trade: the kind of person who builds the thing he needs, then teaches everyone else how it works. Rathe TEC is that same instinct pointed at money — workshops, clinics and resources that assume nothing and explain everything.
When he’s not teaching, he’s at the waterfront with his kids — the two who get to grow up with this stuff explained at the dinner table.

Rooted in the Pacific Northwest
Where this is based.
Rathe TEC is a Pacific Northwest operation — Seattle and the neighborhoods around it. Workshops start where the people are: libraries, community centers, churches and online. The water is in the background of everything here, and so are the kids.
